Senior Project Engineer

The company has broken ground on their pilot plant near Spartanburg, SC and has several additional site builds planned for the near future. We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer that will provide leadership for the execution of capital projects from conceptualization through operational performance testing. This position will report into the Lead Project Engineer and support the pilot plant and additional facility builds, including equipment installations, engineering and construction oversight, and process engineering responsibility, etc. An ideal candidate would have a background in pulp/paper and cellulosic or possibly synthetic fibers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight to ensure safety compliance with contractors
  • Facilitate reporting of safety incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions
  • Develop, communicate and execute the organization’s safety guidelines and performance to internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage and lead governance of pulp demonstration plant project launch management systems with leadership team and all key stakeholders
  • Provide leadership for the execution of capital projects from conceptualization through operational performance testing
  • Lead owner oversight of engineering and construction contractors
  • Support the value drivers for the mill and the business by safely and responsibly delivering project goals including product quality, production, schedule and cost
  • Utilize the latest project management tools and techniques to track and provide company oversight of all phases of capital project including: design, procurement, construction and system start up
  • Execution of project management/mechanical engineering skills including strong analytical capabilities with proven ability to direct and track progress of projects
  • Identify, plan, execute and check for operational excellence in all areas of manufacturing
  • Monitor and manage controllable costs for all areas of responsibility and take corrective action as necessary
  • Manage projects utilizing strong communication, time management and presentation skills
  • Apply lean manufacturing methodologies

Required Experience:

  • B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Paper Science Engineering or 15 years of experience in industrial related field
  • Additional project management education and training is of additional value
  • Developing, designing/managing and executing capital and expense projects and opportunities in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with capital project management for pulp processing/pulp and paper projects including utility installations and modifications
  • Major capital project design, installation, commissioning
  • Mechanical maintenance aptitude and troubleshooting/problem solving skills
  • Effective utilization of multiple resources to achieve well defined objectives
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Organizational and change management
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills; a solid background in statistical analysis is a plus
