COO/EVP of Operations

This company was formed through the merger of two brands in 2018. This company is a leading designer and manufacturer of branded collegiate-licensed apparel. The company provides a full apparel offering including high quality t-shirts, fleece, and bottoms, as well as adjacent product categories such as spirit blankets and pillows. They are also a leading designer and manufacturer of high quality branded custom headwear, apparel and home décor sold to colleges and the resort/destination channels. They have longstanding licensing arrangements with the majority of four-year collegiate institutions, and deep relationships with bookstores, independent retailers, resort/destination and corporate customers nationally.

The Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) position will be responsible for overseeing the overall business operations strategy as this is crucial for the continued growth and success of the business. The Company primarily sells two products - apparel and headwear - that arrive as blank products and are decorated in the Company’s approximately 190,000 square foot facility in the Northeast. It sources its blank apparel products from a variety of sources, including its fully-owned facility in Ciudad Arce, El Salvador, as well as from vendors-based Guatemala, Pakistan and Vietnam. The blank headwear is sourced primarily from Taiwan, China and the Philippines. While the majority of decoration is done in the Northeast facility, a substantial amount is also performed overseas and through a number of domestic subcontractors due to the seasonal nature of its business. The COO will be responsible for managing this complex supply chain and the domestic production operations, including decoration,
embellishment, and shipments to customers. The COO candidate will be located in the Northeast offices and will receive an attractive compensation package including a base salary, annual bonus, benefits, and equity incentives.

Nature and Scope:
The COO will be responsible for the management and coordination of all operational aspects of the Company. The successful candidate will optimize production while managing the complexities associated with the customer art approval process and prevent bottlenecks in production.

This company has recently completed a 105,000 square foot expansion onto the existing 84,000 square foot facility in order to transition and accommodate the production and inventory from the historical production facility in the Northeast. Of key importance in this role will be managing the process that is already currently underway of fully staffing up the migrated equipment and implementing universal production processes that can apply to both apparel and headwear production.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee and optimize the operations of these two brands
• Set annual and long-term operating goals and forecasts
• Manage production departments comprised of screen printing, direct-to-garment (“DTG”) printing, embroidery, applique, and sublimation
• Frequently correspond with and supervise the El Salvador production facility with over 500 employees
• Effectively communicate strategies and statuses of internal initiatives to Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors
• Manage Company’s various IT systems and related IT personnel direct reports
• Provide CEO with detailed updates and synopses of production KPIs and metrics
• Manage personnel and consistently evaluate performance

This candidate will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and a wide degree of creativity and latitude is encouraged. The successful candidate will have at minimum a bachelor's degree and a certification as a subject matter expert (APICS CPIM / CSCP / CLTD; ISO; Six Sigma, etc.) with at least 10-15 years of experience in the field and a track record of success in the following areas:
• Operating Experience (listed in order of priority):
o Proven experience as Chief Operating Office or relevant operations role
o Operational experience in a discrete manufacturing environment that includes understanding of product development processes in such environment
o Operational experience in a business with significant seasonality
o Supply chain management that includes custom engineering products and global sourcing
o Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development
o Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
o Scheduling or production planning roles at some point in career
o Significant experience in costing and BOM construction
o Working knowledge of IT/Business infrastructure and MS Office
o Plant or production management
o ERP implementations
o Experience with private equity
• Skills:
o Strong team building and leadership skills
o Extensive experience in developing and accomplishing goals through measurement, monitoring, and reporting of such goals
o Ability to lead and direct the work of others
o Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
o Strong written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
