Our client is a growing and dynamic wholesale company of decorative items for the home and garden and they’re searching for an energetic, professional, and dedicated Controller. The Controller manages and directs the day-to-day activities of the Financial and Accounting operations of the company. They are responsible for the company’s Financial Plans and Policies, Accounting Practices, Internal Controls, effective operation of the ERP system, maintenance of Financial Records and preparation of Financial Budgets, Forecasts and Reports. The position involves supervision of Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable.

Primary Position Duties:
•Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization
•Strategic partner with the President
•Develop and maintain effective financial reporting models
•Evaluate and develop effective internal transaction processing and financial controls for the organization to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting
•Develop, analyze and interpret financial and operating information to determine profitability, performance against budget, forecast and other matters effecting the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the company
•Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements on a timely basis
•Maintain the company’s system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets including regular account reconciliation
•Ensure the efficient utilization of the Company’s ERP system
•Coordinate, direct, and prepare the Company’s budget and financial forecasts and analyzes report variances
•Manage accounts receivable to achieve optimal collections and DSO levels •Oversee credit department with regard to extension of appropriate credit levels
•Substantial responsibility over inventory control including analysis of perpetual inventory, cycle counting, physical inventory procedures, inventory adjustments and all inventory variance accounts
•Responsible for managing intercompany accounting transactions including monthly and annual reconciliation with related companies
•Develop and maintain Intercompany relationships, including proper recording of shared expenses and/or payments made by related party
•Business registrations, licenses, annual company reports, property tax returns, not including tax returns filed by parent company
•1099 reporting
•Maintain company’s asset records, requires coordination with parent company as fixed asset are maintained by parent. This position would be responsible for the coordination of information and the reconciliation of the detail to the ledger
•Responsible for ensuring all subledgers are reconciled and in balance with the general ledger
•Provides risk management evaluation by reviewing company insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities and works with human resources department to manage employee benefit programs, which are both negotiated on consolidated group basis
•Responsible for evaluating the performance of the accounting department personnel including development and training of staff at the highest level of skill necessary to meet company needs and objectives
•Manage cash flow, particularly through low cash collection months during company’s seasonal period, this is a coordinated effort with the parent company
•Manage Company and employee credit cards, including proper use of cards, ensuring there is spending power on the cards, cancelling cards when needed, reviewing employee charges
•Minimizing risk of fraud with regard to bank transactions, including ensuring proper procedures are followed, transactions are recorded and reconciled in a timely manner
•Review expense reports and ensure adherence to company policies

Strategic Responsibilities:
•Provide leadership in development of short & long-term strategic financial objectives
•Ensure credibility of Finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts
•Evaluate the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action
•Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions
•Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities
•Recommend and implement strategies to enhance financial performance, operational effectiveness, and business opportunities

•Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting to the Company
•Build annual budget templates and process
•Build timeline to ensure proper coordination and inclusion from Department Leads
•Outline process for monthly review of revenue and expense budgets
•Build monthly, a revised forecast to the monthly budget/plan
•Work closely with Department Leads to understand variances and provide guidance on adhering to budgets

•This position requires a minimum of seven years of financial management experience with a minimum of five years’ experience in a warehouse distribution environment - import and small package consumer products a plus
•Requirement of at least 5 years’ experience of managing teams and having direct reports
•Knowledge of a MLM focused organization is preferred
•Advanced computer skills including extensive use of Excel and experience with implementation of an ERP system, specifically Apprise ERP software, and WMS system
•Apprise knowledge is a plus
•Direct experience designing and implementing internal control systems
•Experience in designing and establishing short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
•A strong understanding of warehouse operations
•Experience in an environment with large numbers of customers and high claim volume
•Working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and forecasting, both monthly and annual
•Experience in working with a China entity, a plus
•Bachelor’s Degree in accounting with a CPA, prefer public accounting experience
•Excellent written & verbal communication skills
•Ability to think strategically in line with long term goals and objectives set departmentally and company-wide
•Ability to plan and execute strategic projects
•Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures
•Ability to organize, prioritizes, and schedule work assignments
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•A team player that understands how to work effectively in a fast-paced organization
