If you are technical expert and strategic thinker seeking an advanced development role, then this position as a Senior Polymer Development Chemist OR a Product Technology Scientist for Compounds may be the ideal opportunity you’ve been looking for! This person will serve as an expert working to drive innovation to meet emerging application needs. The ideal candidate is both technically savvy with a keen interest in polymer chemistry & development and someone who has the interpersonal skills to network both inside and outside the company, delegate, and drive action. The candidate will interact with professionals across the company and customers at a technical level, with the overarching goal of translating application needs into product development strategies through combining academic and industry knowledge. This company is a global leader in developing Nylon 6,6 products that go into a variety of injection molded parts, extruded profiles, films for food and industrial packaging, fibers, and textiles. This specific job opening is in our engineering plastics product development division, where our group is focused on continuous improvement of our core plastics portfolio and innovating through focused effort within chemistry and additive approaches to expand our reach into new applications. The ideal Senior Polymer Development Chemist will serve as a polymer chemistry expert to bring innovative, scalable ideas for new polymers that will help value up our product line.

Job Responsibilities: In addition to interacting with customers and translating application needs, the Senior Polymer Product Development Scientist has a variety of job responsibilities, including:
• Planning, executing, analyzing, and reporting on technology projects and intellectual property strategy
• Influencing product strategies for industry segments and/or applications
• Engaging multiple business functions to ensure successful development projects from concept to commercialization
• Assess competitive and emerging technologies and make recommendations for business impact
• Maintaining awareness of ESH/regulatory requirements/changes
• Handling presentations and/or publications at respected industry and scientific associations
• Collaborating and organizing with a cross-functional team
• Solving problems in a scientific manner to support new or existing applications
• Influencing growth through new technology development
• Job Requirements: The successful Senior Polymer Development Chemist will have and advanced degree in Polymer Science/Chemistry, Material Science, or associated field with a Ph.D. highly desirable. Additional requirements include:
• 0-5 years industrial experience with an in-depth knowledge of polymer science in the areas of polymer synthesis, polymer processing, analytical science, structure/property relationships, thermal characteristics, and rheology
• Effective in delivering complex technical presentations to large groups of non-technical executives
• Inquisitive, self-motivated, and eager to learn new things
• Effective communication to allow for in company and outside networking
• Experience with taking functional market needs and translating into useful technologies
• Ability to take initiative and focus on results
• Strong verbal and technical writing skills
• Must be a strategic and innovative thinker with strong problem-solving skills
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc.)

• Engaging multiple business functions to ensure successful development projects from concept to commercialization
• Interacting with customers on a technical level to support new product validation
• Assessing competitive and emerging technologies and making recommendations for business impact
• Maintaining awareness of ESH/regulatory requirements for all developmental activity
• Handling presentations and/or publications at respected industry and scientific associations
• Collaborating and organizing with a cross-functional team
• Solving problems in a scientific manner to support new or existing applications
• Influencing growth through new technology development

Job Requirements: The successful Senior Product Technology Scientist will have and advanced degree in Polymer Science/Chemistry, Material Science, or associated field with a Ph.D. highly desirable. Additional requirements include:
• 0 – 5 years of relevant industrial experience with an in-depth knowledge of polymer chemistry and compounding processes in the areas of polymer synthesis, analytical science, structure/property relationships, rheology, thermal/electrical properties of polymers/compounds formulations, and twin-screw extrusion
• Experienced in translating customer needs into commercial products
• Effective in delivering complex technical presentations to large groups of non-technical executives
• Inquisitive, self-motivated, and eager to learn new things
• Ability to be a strategic and innovative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the aptitude to take initiative and focus on results
• Strong verbal and technical writing skills to allow for in company and outside networking
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc.)
