Material Developer

The Raw Material Team is looking for a creative, and inspired Material Developer to join the team. As a Material Developer, the candidate’s responsibility will be to ensure that the components that build the product are sourced, developed and tested with integrity, intention and aligned with our brand vision and values.

The ideal candidate will have an apparel education and technical knowledge of Fabrics and Trims as well as Garment Construction. As a material developer, you will be able to present innovative, fashionable and functional component ideas and solutions to meet the needs of our consumers.

The ideal candidate will work closely and collaboratively with Design, Color, R&D, PD, Tech and Production team to create beautiful and innovative product.

•Assist the Material Manager in researching new innovations and trends to present seasonally to Design
•Organize and setup the seasonal material fair
•Maintain the material library so that all categories are organized and presentable
•Manage sourcing & development for their Exclusives division, fabrics and trims
•Thorough understanding of testing protocol, material integrity requirements, product cycle timeline and garment construction
•Support cross-functional teams with fabric and trim requests as needed
•Superior understanding of Textile construction, Yarns, Fibers and Finishing
•Provide functional support across the company, suppliers and all team members resulting in best in class product, quality, business and education of materials
•Understand component use within a garment to eliminate any potential risks
•Create and update components within PLM system
•Initiate testing of all development fabrics and trims via approved internal labs or 3rd party testing so that fabrics are approved prior to SMS and within the guidelines established
•Accountable for timely adherence to calendar dates
•Present recommendations to improve, course correct and capitalize on sourcing and development strategy
•Build and grow relationships with current and potential mills thru daily correspondence, mill visits and meetings

Desired Skills and Experience:
•Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in textile field or equivalent experience
•Experience within the athletic industry is a plus
•Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Excellent organizational and time management skills with appropriate sense of urgency
•Commitment and superior attention to detail
•Be a creative problem solver and use that learning to affect future change
•Ability to work in a team environment, build trust and relationships with vendor & company staff
•Strong analytical skills
•Adaptable and flexible with a changing and growing work environment
•Strong interpersonal and listening skills
•Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, & Outlook
•Proficiency with PLM and Adobe Suite - Illustrator and Photoshop a plus
