Product Development Director

The right candidate will play a vital role in the creation of new products and the continued enhancement of existing products. They will work closely with sales, marketing, and the customers to determine precisely what the end user needs. One will need to develop a working knowledge of the competitive landscape and the industry standards/regulations to enhance all product offerings. This candidate should be able to mix sound strategic business direction with creative thinking. Our client has developed a reputation for leading the industry with forward thinking and out of the box product designs. The right candidate will be challenged to carry on that tradition.

Primary Relationships:
• This position will report directly to the President
• Within the organization, this position has a primary working relationship with; Sales, Marketing, Engineering and Operations

Responsibilities:
• Play an instrumental role in the new product design, development, engineering and sourcing of new products. Categories will include soft goods as well as hard goods classified products
• Develop a close working relationship with the sales team as well as key customers/end-users often visiting these locations or job sites to witness and address product concerns or potential improvements/solutions
• Work closely with the marketing team on the branding and brand look for new products
• Communicate regularly with domestic and overseas suppliers on product related matters
• Properly track and report regularly on the progress of new Road Mapped projects and the improvements to the existing project

Qualifications (Required):
• Qualified candidates must have a minimum 10 years work experience leading the creation process for technical products
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a clear and concise way
• Must be organized and have the ability and drive to multi-task in a fast-paced, team environment
• Proficiency in MS Office applications, Adobe Suite applications and if possible, SolidWorks
• Ability to travel domestically & internationally when necessary
• Innovation, someone who looks beyond the norm when developing new product ideas and directions, making improved functionality and user desirability the key point of the design
• Strong analytical skills; the ability to use logic or reasoning skills to study consumers and competitors to recognize the right direction for a new product
• Solid interpersonal skills; understands how to develop cooperative working relationships with other colleagues and the benefit of working well with other departments in the creation process

• Strong analytical skills; the ability to use logic or reasoning skills to study consumers and competitors to recognize the right direction for a new product
• Solid interpersonal skills; understands how to develop cooperative working relationships with other colleagues and the benefit of working well with other departments in the creation process
• Mechanical skills and know how; possess the ability to deconstruct products to understand how they were engineered, so that information and knowledge can be utilized in the creation of new products
• Working knowledge of various materials including, Steel, Aluminum, Plastics and Synthetic fibers
• SAP/ERP and PLM system experience
